## Antique 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair Hand-Painted Creamer & Covered Sugar SetHistorical Significance:This beautiful, hand-painted porcelain creamer and covered sugar bowl set is a genuine piece of American history, created to commemorate the 1904 St. Louis World’s Fair (The Louisiana Purchase Exposition). The base of the sugar bowl features a hand-written, period-correct inscription reading "St-Louis. 1904", capturing the spirit of one of the most famous international expositions in history.A Fascinating "China Decorating" Period Piece:During the early 1900s, the "china painting" movement was a massive trend across North America. Hobbyists and professional artists would purchase premium, plain white porcelain "blanks" imported from top European factories and hand-paint them.Because artists often bought individual blanks to compose a set, the two pieces feature stamps from two different luxury European porcelain makers, expertly unified by the same artist's hand:
* Covered Sugar Bowl Stamp: Z.S. & Co. Bavaria (Zeh, Scherzer & Co., Germany)* Creamer Stamp: J.P. / L. France (Jean Pouyat, Limoges, France)
Design & Pattern:Both pieces feature a beautifully executed, soft-hued Wild Rose pattern with delicate pink petals, yellow centers, and soft green foliage. The pieces boast elegant scalloped rims decorated with brushed gold gilt accents and a structurally unique, stylized green finial handle on the sugar bowl lid.Condition:
* Excellent Antique Condition: The hand-painted floral motifs remain vibrant with minimal signs of age.* Structure: No visible chips, cracks, or hairline fractures to the bodies, handles, or delicate spouts. The lid fits nicely.* Gilding: Minor, expected age-related wear to the gold trim on the rims, which only adds to its authentic antique charm.
