Edited by W. T. Harris, Ph.D., LL.D., with F. Sturges Allen as general editor, and based on the International Dictionary of 1890 and 1900, this is the latest authentic quarto edition of the Merriam series, complete with a dictionary of geography and of biography and a reference history of the world.
The volume is bound in black embossed leather-grain cloth with bright gilt stamping and a gilt-framed medallion on the cover. Printed on thin India paper, it has a full alphabetical thumb index for quick reference and includes the frontispiece portrait of Noah Webster with his facsimile signature. A handsome, substantial piece for a home library, study, or office shelf, and a nice example of early 20th-century American reference publishing.
