Beautiful antique 19th-century portrait of a seated lady, presented under glass in an exceptionally decorative gilt oval frame. The unidentified sitter is elegantly portrayed wearing a dark dress with delicate white lace at the collar and cuffs and a soft blue-lavender skirt. Her center-parted hair, restrained pose, and refined clothing are characteristic of fashionable mid-19th-century portraiture. The portrait is particularly appealing for its elaborate gilt oval frame, decorated with raised flowers, leaves, buds, and scrolling details. The warm aged gilding and dimensional floral ornament give this petite portrait wonderful presence despite its relatively small size. The portrait remains under glass, and the reverse is covered with an older paper backing. I have not removed the portrait from the frame or disturbed the backing; therefore, the exact painted medium and support are unknown and are not being represented as oil on canvas. No visible signature has been identified.Details:
