Antique 9.5” German Sonneberg Belton Type Bisque Doll Glass Eyes c1880
An absolutely beautiful and exceptionally expressive antique German Sonneberg Belton-type doll, dating to approximately 1880–1890. Measuring just 9.5 inches tall, this lovely little doll has a gorgeous bisque head and shoulder plate, enormous brown glass eyes, and particularly fine facial painting.
Her face is truly captivating, with large brown glass eyes, beautifully painted upper and lower eyelashes, delicately feathered eyebrows, wonderfully rosy cheeks, and a sweet, slightly parted mouth. She has the soft, expressive features and refined modeling that make these early German dolls so desirable.
She retains her antique leather body with articulated arms and legs. Her newer curly brown mohair wig, accented with a blue ribbon, frames her face beautifully. The small cabinet size is particularly appealing and allows her to display wonderfully alongside other early German dolls.
Details:
* Approximately 9.5 inches tall
* Antique German Sonneberg Belton-type doll
* Circa 1880–1890
* Beautiful bisque head and shoulder plate
* Large brown glass eyes
* Exquisite facial painting with finely painted lashes and rosy cheeks
* Antique articulated leather body
* Newer curly brown mohair wig with blue ribbon
* Desirable small cabinet size
Condition:
The beautiful bisque head and shoulder plate are in lovely antique condition, with no repairs to the shoulder plate. There are a few minor age-related specks and small imperfections to the bisque.
The antique leather body has considerable age-related wear, discoloration, and surface deterioration, as is evident throughout the torso and extremities. There is a separation at the waist/crotch area, with some stuffing leakage. While the body is relatively stable at present, this opening would benefit from reinforcement to prevent further deterioration and stuffing loss. There are also old patches and areas of wear to the leather.
The curly brown mohair wig is a newer replacement.
Despite the condition issues to her antique body, this is a particularly beautiful little Sonneberg Belton-type doll with a wonderfully expressive face, lovely original bisque shoulder plate, and exceptional display appeal. A charming and desirable example of an early German cabinet-size doll.
