Antique E.S. Germany Iridescent Tea Cup Saucer Hand Painted Snow Scene Art Nouve For Sale

Erdmann Schlegelmilch — Thuringia, Germany — Circa 1902

This magnificent porcelain tea cup and saucer set was produced in Thuringia, Germany by the renowned Erdmann Schlegelmilch Porcelain Factory. Founded in 1861, this esteemed factory was celebrated for its high-end luxury wares until its closure in 1937. The underside of the saucer bears the authentic green stamped scroll factory mark reading \"Prov. Sax. E.S. Germany\".

• Saucer: 6 inches in diameter.
• Cup: 2 1/2 inches tall with a diameter of 3 3/4 inches.
• Design Features: Gracefully curled, ornate handle and an elegant pedestal footed base.

A marvelous Art Nouveau work of art that is exceedingly rare to find as a matching pair. The set is masterfully hand-painted with iridescent paint that creates a stunning luster. The exterior of the cup glows in an amazing, difficult-to-describe blue-green color that shifts beautifully as it catches the light.

The landscape scene portrays a vibrant sunset over a snow-covered pine forest, rendered in a highly distinctive style. To create depth, the artist used raised white enamel accents to produce a physical texture on the snow-laden trees that you can actually feel with your fingertips. The delicate rims are trimmed with a beaded gold decoration, and the stylized handle is richly gilded.

Aside from some very slight, expected wear to the gilding right along the outermost edge of the saucer, this antique set is in excellent condition. There are absolutely no chips, cracks, crazing, or repairs.

Please note: Due to the intensely shiny, reflective nature of the iridescent surfaces, camera glare was completely unavoidable in the photographs. Any bright white spots are light reflections, not damage or loss of paint.
