Striking antique reverse-painted convex/bubble glass landscape, dating to approximately the early 20th century, likely circa 1910s–1920s.
This large 24” x 18” piece depicts a charming country cottage/farm surrounded by trees and lush green landscape. The image is presented beneath dramatically bowed convex “bubble” glass, giving the artwork wonderful depth and dimension.
The substantial oval wood frame has a beautiful dark faux/tiger-grain finish, a decorative treatment commonly seen on period oval frames. Similar antique tiger-grain frames survive with large convex glass fronts.
The reverse is particularly interesting and retains its old construction: a segmented wooden oval frame, aged fiberboard/cardboard backing, small retaining nails/tacks and twisted metal hanging wire. Nothing has been modernized or refinished.

Estimated period: Early 20th century, circa 1910s–1920s. This is an attribution based on the style and construction rather than a maker’s label; no maker or artist has been identified.
The piece remains very decorative but shows genuine age. The frame has some scratches, scuffs and finish wear. The backing has deterioration and losses. There are also areas of lifting/loss to the image/painted decoration beneath the glass, all photographed. The convex glass itself is the standout feature and creates a beautiful dimensional effect.
A wonderful piece of early decorative art for an antique, English country, cottagecore, farmhouse, Victorian or grandmillennial interior.
