Description
This is a very rare antique Australian wooden book shaped box made by master craftsman H.A. Nielsen
His workshop was located in Port Douglas, North Queensland, active approximately between 1900-1920
All of the different timber species he used on the box are native to tropical Queensland
The box is all original and complete. Including the screw used to make a handle for the drawer. That was how he made them, and it\'s consistently the same on other examples that have been sold.
It has been stamped 3 separate times with his makers mark. which I\'ve shown in the photos
Twice inside the box on opposite sides, and again on the front of the internal drawer
Measures 21.5cm long, 14.5cm wide by 4.7cm thick
Very good antique condition and it looks stunning on display!
There is a split in the central inlaid panel on one side, and some minor nibbles to the corners

H.A. Nielsen is considered to be one of early Australia\'s best decorative arts wood craftsmen, and his book boxes were always what he was most famous for.
They are extremely scarce! This example has never been sold before, it\'s not one that went through Leski\'s sale.
