Complete 8-volume antique set of The New Biblical Guide, or Recent Discoveries and the Bible by Rev. John Urquhart, published by The S.S. Scranton Co. of Hartford, Connecticut. This scarce set presents biblical history, archaeology, geography, and discoveries connected with the Bible, reflecting the late 19th-century interest in comparing scripture with historical and archaeological research.
John Urquhart was a Scottish minister and religious writer known for works defending biblical history and Christian belief. The New Biblical Guide became one of his most substantial works, issued as a multi-volume reference set for serious Bible readers, clergy, students, and collectors.
This is a complete 8-volume S.S. Scranton edition, believed to be an early U.S. printing, circa 1898. Complete sets are difficult to find, especially with all eight volumes together.
Very nice antique condition for age. Interiors are very clean with pages presenting beautifully. Bindings appear solid. Exterior covers and spines are also very attractive for books over 100 years old, with normal shelf wear, light rubbing, and minor age-related wear from storage and handling. Overall, this is a very clean, well-preserved, highly displayable complete set.
