Antique Original Hand-Colored Etching by Jules Leray (1875–1938)

• This beautiful piece has been in my personal collection since about 1995, when I first traveled to France... it was amazing and if you have not been to ROUEN, the old city is beautiful... and the house is still there!

Beautiful antique French architectural etching by listed French artist Jules Leray (1875–1938), depicting the historic Rue Saint-Romain in Rouen, France.

The work is signed “Leray” in pencil at the lower right and appears to be titled in pencil at the lower left “Rouen – Rue St. Romain.”

This is an original etching rather than a modern photographic reproduction, with wonderful fine line work and hand-applied color throughout the scene.

The image depicts the old half-timbered buildings and narrow streets for which historic Rouen is famous, with several figures walking through the street and an architectural building in the background.

The muted blue, brown, ochre and gray coloring gives the work a particularly attractive early-20th-century European appearance.

It remains in its older gold-toned frame under glass and displays beautifully.

The etching itself presents extremely well, with strong detail and attractive original coloring. There is expected age-related toning to the surrounding paper/mat.
