Beautiful antique edition of The Courtship of Miles Standish by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, published by Barse & Hopkins, New York.
This attractive vintage volume features a soft brown suede/leather-style binding with gilt script lettering on the front cover. Inside is an ornate decorative title page along with an illustrated frontispiece showing “The House of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.”
The book contains Longfellow’s classic narrative poem telling the story of Miles Standish, John Alden and Priscilla Mullins, along with introductory material and explanatory notes.
A particularly attractive early Longfellow edition that would display nicely in a collection of antique books, American literature, poetry, Pilgrim/Plymouth history or decorative leather-bound books.
Condition: Good antique condition overall. Exterior suede shows age-related rubbing, discoloration and handling wear. Gilt lettering remains attractive and readable.
