Large Antique Mettlach V&B Handpainted Wall Plate/Plaque #1044 Dec.94 Stadtthor Cochem c.1900
: : This beautiful wall plate/plaque was produced by Villeroy and Boch Mettlach in the 1890s - early 1900s.
The plate is a part of a series of Mettlach plates depicting the Rhine castles. It was handpainted over transfer outline -all plate in this particular series were handpainted.
This one depicts a wonderful view of town gates of the town of Cochem. Cochem is the seat of and the biggest town in the Cochem-Zell district in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Cochem was settled as early as Celtic and Roman times. It had its first documentary mention as Villa Cuchema in 866 CE. The town wall (monumental zone) – begun in 1332, reinforced in 1675; preserved: medieval Enderttor (gate), after 1352.
Marked with \"V&B M\" Mettlach mark, mold number 1044 and decor number 94.
The plate is in excellent condition. It is large and impressive - 12\" in diameter.
