Antique Thompson Cabinet Company Printer’s Furniture Half Case – Ludington, Michigan
Original Thompson Cabinet Company printer’s furniture half case, manufactured in Ludington, Michigan for use in traditional letterpress printing.
This distinctive wedge-shaped cabinet was designed to organize and store wooden printer’s furniture—the precisely sized wooden spacing blocks used by printers when locking type and printing forms into a press.

The cabinet also retains its original graduated metal size markings across the top and along the left side, as well as the measuring scale mounted along the right side.
It contains an extensive assortment of original wooden printer’s furniture arranged by size throughout the cabinet. Many individual pieces retain their original numerical size markings.
The cabinet appears remarkably complete or very nearly complete, with the compartments well populated throughout. I have not individually inventoried every wooden block against an original Thompson factory inventory and therefore cannot guarantee that every piece originally supplied with the cabinet is present. Please refer to the photographs for the exact contents.
Approximate dimensions: 32” high × 10” wide × 10½” deep at the base. The wedge-shaped cabinet tapers to approximately 2” deep at the top.
Condition: Very good antique condition. The wooden cabinet is solid and retains an excellent aged surface and patina. The printer’s furniture shows expected evidence of actual print-shop use, including ink staining, discoloration and surface wear. The original manufacturer’s plate, graduated metal rails and measuring scale are present. No major damage is apparent. Please examine all photographs closely as they are an important part of the description.
