Found in my Grandfather\'s attic, where it has been stored and unused for many years.
In very good all around condition for its age.Took plenty of photos so you can see the item clearly.
A solid bronze commemorative medal of Antonio Canova (1757–1822) — the celebrated Italian Neoclassical sculptor, one of the most important artists of his era (famous for works like Psyche Revived by Cupid\'s Kiss[on display at the Louvre, Paris] and Pauline Bonaparte as Venus Victrix, and busts/statues of Napoleon).
- Obverse: profile bust of Canova, signed \"PUTINATI F.\" (F. = fecit, \"made by\") in the truncation of the neck
- Reverse: reads \"AL SECOLO DECIMO NONO\" (\"To the 19th century\"), with a winged helmet (Mercury\'s petasos) above and a helmeted head of Minerva/Roma below, wrapped in a laurel/snake border — classic Neoclassical allegorical imagery celebrating Canova as an artistic icon \"of the 19th century\"
- Engraver: Medal by Francesco Puttinati (1775–1848), an Italian medalist based in Milan.
