Antique c1830 Florentine Minchiate Tarot Cards Tuscany Tax Stamp XXIIII For Sale

Rare group of six original early-19th-century Florentine Minchiate playing cards, dating approximately c.1820–1840, from the Grand Duchy of Tuscany.Minchiate was the distinctive expanded 97-card tarot game particularly associated with Florence and Tuscany. These six surviving cards are woodcut printed with period hand/stencil coloring and share matching repeating red/pink floral-pattern backs.The group includes a particularly important example:Trump XXIIII (24) – Libra / Bilancia, bearing the historic Tuscan fiscal stamp marked 13.4, representing the tax of 13 soldi and 4 denari imposed on Minchiate packs.Under Tuscan regulations introduced in 1820, the fiscal stamp for Minchiate was specifically applied to Trump XXIIII. The presence of this stamp provides unusually strong evidence for the origin and period of this group.The six cards comprise a mixture of pip, court and trump cards, including the tax-stamped XXIIII, providing an attractive representative sampling of an early Florentine Minchiate pack.The cards retain remarkably attractive period coloring, including reds, greens, blues and yellows. All six show expected evidence of nearly two centuries of age and use, including toning, surface marks, edge/corner wear and scattered staining.
