Antique c1843 Thomas Allom Han-Tseuen China Hand Colored Steel Engraving For Sale

Antique mid-19th century hand-colored steel engraving depicting “Han-tseuen, Province of Kiang-nan” in China, after English artist and topographical illustrator Thomas Allom (1804–1872). The original composition was engraved by James Redaway and published as part of the historic China, in a Series of Views works during the 1840s.Features a highly detailed mountainous Chinese landscape with figures, traditional architecture and selectively hand-colored foreground details.This example is presented in an older framed display with the engraving mounted on a raised panel over a textured fabric/linen-style backing. The original printed title and credits are not visible due to the mounting. The frame backing appears firmly attached and has not been removed in order to avoid damaging the antique print or mounting.Condition: Antique condition with age-related toning, scattered spotting/foxing, surface debris and general wear consistent with age. Frame and fabric backing also show age and wear.
