Antique c1913 Milton Bradley Peter Rabbit Puzzle Box 3 Beatrix Potter
Wonderful and very rare antique Peter Rabbit Puzzle Box, made by the Milton Bradley Company of Springfield, Massachusetts. Dating to approximately 1913, this early set features charming color illustrations based on the beloved Peter Rabbit characters created by Beatrix Potter.
The set is identified as Milton Bradley No. 4142 and includes the original illustrated box and three large, heavy-cardboard picture puzzles. Each completed puzzle measures approximately 12 3/4 inches high by 9 inches wide.
One piece is missing from the puzzle depicting the rabbit family, as clearly shown in the photographs. The other two puzzles appear to be complete. Some of the puzzle pieces have old tape repairs. The pieces also show expected surface wear, rubbing, small bends, edge wear, discoloration, and other signs of age and childhood use.
The original illustrated box is included and is quite scarce in its own right. The box has considerable age-related wear, including old tape repairs, edge and corner losses, separation, scuffing, discoloration, and general wear. Despite its condition, the colorful Peter Rabbit cover remains charming and displays beautifully.
Overall, this is an exceptionally scarce survivor from the early 20th century. The colors remain attractive, and finding all three puzzles together with the original illustrated box is unusual—even with the missing piece and repairs.
A wonderful addition to a collection of Beatrix Potter or Peter Rabbit memorabilia, early American toys, antique puzzles, children’s literature, rabbits, or nursery collectibles.
