Mysia, Pergamon (Circa 200–133 BC) AE Bronze - Athenian Owl Reference
A well-preserved bronze issue of Pergamon in Mysia, struck during the Attalid period. The reverse legend AΘHNAΣ NIKHΦOPOY (“of Athena Nikephoros”) honors Athena as Bringer of Victory, the principal deity of Pergamon and protector of the city.
The prominent owl reverse — Athena’s sacred bird — echoes one of the most iconic symbols in ancient numismatics. The owl, long associated with wisdom and divine protection, is famously known from the classical Athenian “Owl” tetradrachms and had become a widely recognized emblem of Athena throughout the Greek world.
An attractive example with strong devices, a bold owl standing on palm frond, and dark, even patina consistent with the grade.
