Pair of authentic solid walnut high-back dining armchairs designed and made by Sam Maloof, dating to the circa 1970s. Each chair features Maloof's signature exposed joinery, sculpted lines, and original wool upholstery. Both pieces carry the branded mark: MALOOF designed-made california.

Sam Maloof was a master woodworker and a pivotal figure in the American Craft movement. He was the first craftsman to receive a MacArthur Fellowship and a Louis Comfort Tiffany Grant. His work is included in the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Smithsonian's Renwick Gallery, and the White House. Rather than hiding structural construction, Maloof emphasized exposed mortise-and-tenon joinery and hand-sculpted hard edges, finishing his pieces with a smooth, tactile burnish.
