Chagall lithograph no. M234, CREATION One of the most rare prints from the series, Chagall has a few story lines going on with this wonderful flowing composition. Angels swirling around the sun at the upper portion and the Garden of Eden down on earth where Adam is picking an apple from the forofferden tree.
Marc Chagall had the rare ability to animate his characters without bothering with anatomical correctness. Gestures and body language conveying emotions ranging from anger to tenderness bring his stories to life. Collaborating with Fernand Mourlot, his lithographs feature colors made from inks and varnishes especially formulated for Chagall.This original lithograph is one of the stories told in ILLUSTRATIONS FOR THE BIBLE, a 1960 publication from VERVE. The prints are so well done and beautiful that collectors are paying far more than book collectors for these rare pages printed right to the edge of the paper, and never signed. There was also a special edition of 50 printed on thicker paper with large margins and signed and numbered. Our prices are lower than most sellers because our acquisition cost is very low. A retired art dealer friend had a problem. He had twenty feet of shelf space books with original prints, and was too old and tired to go through them and his kids lived far away, and he asked me for help. In exchange he gave me a number of editions including this one.
