D N MAVRC TIB PP AV – Helmeted and cuirassed facing bust of Maurice Tiberius, holding globus cruciger and shield.
Reverse:
Large K (20-nummi denomination); ANNO vertically to left, cross above, X to right indicating regnal year 10, TES in exergue for Thessalonica.
An attractive late 6th-century Byzantine bronze with a particularly clear reverse. The denomination, regnal date, cross, and TES Thessalonica mint signature are strongly visible. Earthen olive-green and dark brown patina with honest ancient circulation wear. The obverse portrait is considerably softer but remains identifiable.
Condition: Fine overall, with a stronger VF-style reverse.
Authenticity: Guaranteed authentic ancient coin.
Maurice Tiberius ruled the Byzantine Empire from AD 582–602 during a period of prolonged conflict with the Sasanian Persian Empire and increasing military pressure along the Danube frontier. This coin was struck at Thessalonica in AD 591/592, toward the end of the major Byzantine-Persian conflict of Maurice\'s reign.
