Early Stanley Bailey No. 4 Type 4 dated 1874 - 1884 smooth plane. It has the "J" - or "beehive' Stanley Rule & Level Co. trademark iron, that is near full length on a 9” bed. The iron cap has the L. Bailey Patent Date of Dec 24, 1867. It has the small brass knurled right hand thread iron depth adjusting nut. This is a pre-lateral - hence made prior to when they added a lateral lever on the frog. The tote and knob are void of any cracks or repairs, and are both in great condition, showing mild wear. There is an owners initials on the tote but you may be able to sand it out. The tote has that early thick look to it and feels great in the hand. The bottom is in good shape and the mouth is free of any tears or chips. With a quick tuning you will have a sound worker, or better yet - show some respect and have it sit on your shelf overlooking your shop.Please see photos for best description.
