Due to the nice dark shiny look Zirconium is used for the handle scales by the best custom knifemakers, but German company Boker has developed Haddock Special Run limited series as a first serial production knife with this unique metal.
From the first look the collaborationJens Anso and Boker presents to you a minimalistic design in grey with black tone gentleman style EDC.
The charcoal sheen is achieved through a specially applied oxidation process, gives this non-toxic material its unique flair. This gives the contoured scales an almost three-dimensional effect. To pay tribute to this highly refined handle material, Boker used CPM S-35VN powdered metal as the blade steel for this special run and for good reason. It has been regarded as one of the premiere blade steels worldwide. The blade and the titanium liner feature a fine satin finish that perfectly complement the unique sheen of the zirconium.
Zirconium is an element (Zr) that belongs to the same group of heavy metals as titanium but differentiates itself by having more than twice its density. Thanks to its strength Zirconium is mainly exploited in the extremely high temperatures environment. It does not absorb neutrons, so more than 90% of zirconium is used in nuclear reactors and nuclear submarines. Zirconium metal has also a very high resistance to corrosion by acids, alkalis and seawater.
