Brother Mel Meyer Original Signed Sculpture Iron & Brass Centerpiece 1970’s For Sale

Brother Mel Meyer signed sculpture. Centerpiece, mantle or alter piece, tabletop multi arm candleholder large votive brass and steel sculpture. Torch cut brass 140mm (5”) artillery shell with 20 heavy gauge bent steel rods brazed or welded on and each arm topped with a 1-7/8” flat brass colored disc. Natural metal colors and black paint. Signed MEL stamped on one of the discs which can be seen in an attached photo. The piece is large and measures about 26”long x 18”wide x 11”high and weighs about 11-1/2lbs. A rugged and heavy duty piece. Brutalist and Industrial. It sits steady and straight up on a table. The candle holder shell casing accepts a 3” candle well. The photos were taken with a led candle. A real candle would be fine as this piece is all heavy metal. Signed MEL but not titled as far as I know. I have dated this piece through a similar shell casing piece shown online that was said to have been bought from MEL in the 1970’s. This piece has been privately held and was not part of any recent sale from Brother Mel’s studio. Previous ownership records are not available. A beautiful and rare example of Brother Mel’s vision, artistry and ability brought together in a stunning and useful tabletop mantle or alter piece of art.
