Buffalo Springfield formed in Los Angeles in April 1966, born from one of rock music's most famous chance encounters. On April 6, Neil Young and Bruce Palmer — two Canadians who had driven down from Toronto in Young's 1953 Pontiac hearse after their band the Mynah Birds disbanded — were stuck in traffic on Sunset Boulevard, about to leave L.A. for San Francisco.
