they are made from top quality chert flint which is a very hard stone ,they are spall type gun flints which were used in the flintlock era,they are knapped by skilled craftsmen. the knapping sometimes creates a flint that is not top quality but will perform very well . we sell these as factory seconds because they do not meet our standards for quality. we have customers that say our seconds are as good as some regular flints
