Offered here is an impressive folio volume: Camden\'s Britannia 1695 by William Camden, a facsimile of the celebrated 1695 edition published by Edmund Gibson. Published by David & Charles for Times Newspapers Limited in 1971 (ISBN 0 7230 0016 6), it carries an Introduction by Professor Stuart Piggott (Department of Archaeology, University of Edinburgh) and a Bibliographical Note by Gwyn Walters (Assistant Keeper, National Library of Wales). Reproduced and printed in Great Britain by Latimer Trend & Company Limited, Whitstable.

William Camden\'s Britannia is the foundational county-by-county survey of Great Britain and Ireland — first published in Latin in 1586, and here reproduced in Edmund Gibson\'s landmark 1695 English translation \"with large Additions and Improvements.\" The facsimile faithfully reproduces the original engraved portrait frontispiece of Camden, the full period title page, and the complete text and comprehensive index. A magnificent and genuinely heavyweight reference work.

The book is handsomely bound in publisher\'s quarter cloth — red cloth boards with a beige/linen spine, the spine panelled and decorated in gilt with a red title label lettered \"Camden\'s Britannia 1695\" and \"Times Newspapers Limited\" at the foot. A substantial, weighty folio.

Condition — please read and view photos closely: A remarkably clean, tight copy — an ex-reference-library book that was consulted in-house only, never lent out, and handled with care:

• Binding firm and square, text block tight; pages bright, fresh and clean throughout
• Some damp/red staining to the rear board interior and endpaper, reaching only a few leaves into the appendix at the very back (see photos) — the body of the text is unaffected
• Ex-library: Bromley/Beckenham Reference and Information Services, with bookplate, small reference stamps, and shelf label as shown
• Light marking/rubbing to the cloth boards and spine; a couple of small knocks to the corners
• All pages present, complete and legible
• No slipcase — the book is offered as the volume only
