Paul Newman went to Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio, and often returned to the school to mentor drama students, direct plays, etc. Newman and his wife, Joanne Woodward, helped to start the Kenyon Festival Theater. I bought this can from someone who attended Kenyon and met Paul during the summer festival in 1982.
The story is that while he was there, Newman would frequent Pirates Cove, a popular local dive bar that Kenyon students enjoyed. One night Paul decided to take a group of students on a \"snipe hunt.\" If you don\'t know what that means, it’s an old prank among outdoorsmen to send someone eagerly looking for a made-up critter that doesn’t exist.
Anyhow, Newman bought a case of Budweiser and took several students to nearby Oak Grove Cemetery, and had them running all over the place looking for the \"snipe.” He signed a few of these cans, because I\'ve seen another one on FB in a Gambier, Ohio group (the signature is the same but the placement is a little different) telling the same story, and I have a photo of that post.
