HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE:
This creamer represents an important period in French porcelain production and American-European trade relations. Charles Field Haviland, an American businessman, established his own factory in Limoges in 1853, separate from his brother David Haviland\'s operation. CFH pieces were known for their quality and were produced specifically to appeal to American tastes, making them historically significant in the development of transatlantic decorative arts commerce. This creamer dates from before the 1876 merger with Gérard, Dufraisseix & Morel (GDM), placing it in the first generation of CFH production.
