An elegant and accomplished Victorian portrait by Charles Goldsborough Anderson (1865–1936), depicting a refined lady wearing an ivory evening gown adorned with striking crimson flowers. Executed with confident academic technique, the painting beautifully captures the sitter’s dignified expression, delicate complexion, and fashionable attire against a rich dark background.
The work is signed lower right “C. Goldsborough Anderson” and retains an old artist’s supplier stamp to the reverse reading K.F.A.S., 26 Alfred Place West, Kensington, together with an identification plaque on the frame.
Goldsborough Anderson was a respected British portrait painter active during the late Victorian and Edwardian periods, producing society portraits with remarkable attention to elegance, costume and likeness. His refined handling of light and flesh tones is evident throughout this impressive composition.
