An original 6x3.5" vintage photo (NOT a modern reprint) from the Marty Himes estate. This photo is from a collection of press photos used in the production of a racing publication and is quite possibly a one of a kind image.
Provenance: This photograph comes directly from the Marty Himes Racing Museum Collection, assembled over decades by Marty Himes - racer, restorer, and lifelong archivist of American racing. Every piece he preserved tells part of the story of motorsport’s rise from dirt tracks to the spectacle of the Indy 500. We acquired the majority of his photo collection after his passing. Many of his photos are extremely rare or even one of a kind.

Historical Notes
Cookie Visconti was a well-known New England short-track racer who competed regularly at Seekonk Speedway during the 1970s and into the 1980s. Seekonk Speedway, located on the Rhode Island-Massachusetts border in Seekonk, MA, has been one of New England\'s premier oval racing facilities since the 1940s. AMSOIL, which became an early and prominent synthetic lubricant sponsor of grassroots racing during the 1970s, appeared on many short-track cars throughout the Northeast during this era. Visconti was a respected competitor in the regional late model scene, and photos of him from this period are extremely rare and sought after by New England racing historians and collectors.

Print analysis
This is an original silver gelatin black-and-white press photo, approximately 6x3.5 inches. The print appears to have been made close in time to when the photograph was taken, consistent with a Type 1 original press photo from the mid-to-late 1970s. The back shows a tape remnant at the top (typical of publication use) and handwritten editorial notations in red ink, consistent with use in a racing publication layout. No KODAK watermark is visible, but the print quality and paper stock are consistent with original press photography of the era.

Please see scans of the image we have provided for the most accurate and complete state of the photo. Many of the photos in this collection are very old and have age related wear, chips, creases, curling, etc. Others are remarkably well maintained.
