Copa Casino Gulfport Mississippi Foundation Tokens as seen WLOX Biloxi Aug News For Sale

Own a unique piece of Mississippi Gulf Coast casino history. This listing is for approximately 3 pounds of assorted original Copa Casino tokens associated with the former Copa Casino in Gulfport, Mississippi. The Copa Casino was a well-known Gulf Coast casino that operated before Hurricane Katrina devastated the Mississippi coastline in August 2005. Following the destruction and cleanup of the Gulfport waterfront, quantities of casino tokens were found embedded in concrete and demolition material from the former casino property.I refer to these unusual pieces as “foundation tokens” because many of the tokens survived mixed into, attached to, or recovered from concrete associated with the former casino site. They represent an unusual combination of casino memorabilia, Gulf Coast history, and Hurricane Katrina-era material. What You Will ReceiveThis listing includes approximately:3 pounds of assorted Copa Casino tokens and token/concrete materialThe assortment may contain different denominations, conditions, colors, levels of oxidation, concrete residue, staining, wear, or other characteristics resulting from age and their recovery environment.Known Copa Casino token denominations include:• 25¢• $1• $2• $5• $10• $25The exact denominations and number of tokens in each 3-pound assortment may vary. These pieces have not been heavily cleaned or restored. I prefer to leave much of the original surface, concrete residue, oxidation, and character intact because that is part of their history. Why They Are UnusualThese are not simply loose casino chips purchased from a collector. Their history is connected to the physical remains of the Copa Casino property and the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. They can make interesting pieces for:Casino memorabilia collectorsMississippi Gulf Coast collectorsHurricane Katrina historical collectionsShadow boxes and displaysConversation piecesHistorical or educational exhibitsCasino-themed artworkGulfport and Biloxi memorabilia collectionsBecause these are recovered historical materials, every assortment is different. Please study the photographs for examples of the type and condition of material being offered. Photos may show representative examples unless the listing specifically states that the exact pieces pictured are included.I am working to preserve and document the history surrounding these materials rather than simply treating them as old casino tokens.
