What red light therapy may help with (based on research)
Evidence suggests possible improvements in:
✔ gum inflammation (gingivitis)
✔ healing after dental procedures
✔ periodontal pocket depth
✔ tissue regeneration
✔ pain reduction after dental surgery
For gum/periodontal photobiomodulation, 650 nm and 850 nm are quite different.
Why?
- 650 nm → primarily superficial gingival tissue
- 850 nm → greater penetration toward periodontal connective tissue
- Using both could potentially provide different depths of photobiomodulation
This concept is supported by the recent clinical study using 810 + 650 nm, although that does not yet prove that a consumer/home device using 650 + 850 nm does superior.
- Deeper tissue penetration
- Helps periodontal ligament and bone healing
- Often used after dental surgery or implants
Interesting insight:The same 650 nm wavelength is also used in wound healing clinics and dermatology, because gum tissue and skin fibroblasts respond very similarly to photobiomodulation.
