Hans Eriksen (1912-1982) was a very talented Danish artist who produced
a fine body of work over his lifetime. His style early on in his career
favored soft expressionist style that was still closely linked to
the impressionist school. Later, his works became more stark and
he did interiors that embraced realism.This early Eriksen painting is an expressionist masterpiece. It depicts a cabin
or home in the rugged and majestic mountains. The colors are gorgeous
and the brushstrokes are so gentle they create a wonderful dichotomy
with the proud and imposing landscape. This sort of cozy idyll, is the
sort of art work that artists of the early 20th century
produced to sell. Art that paid tribute to regional landscapes were popular
with residents and made them feel proud of where they lived.Today, Hans Eriksen works are very scarce and a few pop up at Sotheby\'s or
Christie\'s sale house every decade. This work is one of the most majestic
of his surviving works and is a treasure for Danish art collectors.
