Edison Battery Jar.
Very cool old piece. From quick research, it seems that jarslike this were used as part of battery systems for telegraph andrailroad use.
The lid appears to be glazed porcelain or ceramic. The jaris made of Corning glass according to the embossed writing on the jar. Thereare several deep scratches to one area of lower part of the jar. There’s a spotthat looks like a chip near the top of the jar, but you can’t feel it, it’sinside the glass. The rim of the jar is rough.
The lid is not a tight fit (notsure if it’s supposed to be) and there are random spots/discolorations.There’s a chip to the lid (on the top, near Edison’s name). Not sure if the knob handle is original or not.
I took numerous photos to show the flaws, and to try to show the writing on thejar, but not much luck with the latter. Will be glad to answer any questions to the best of myability or take additional photographs.
Probably more decorative than useful, but definitely cool and not something yourun across every day.
