Edwardian Sterling Silver Engraved Calling-Card CaseA particularly attractive Edwardian sterling silver calling-card case,
fully hallmarked for Birmingham, 1902. Both sides are richly decorated with hand-engraved foliate scrollwork over
a finely lined ground, surrounded by decorative scalloped and punched
borders. One side incorporates a vacant shield-shaped cartouche, with no
monogram or personal engraving. The rectangular case has a hinged lid and compact proportions similar to a
modern credit or business card.Hallmarks
The marks include the Birmingham anchor, lion passant for sterling silver
and the date letter for 1902.The original sponsor or maker\'s mark has been overstruck by a retailer\'s
mark and cannot now be identified with silver
