A charming 19th-century English School oil on canvas depicting the dramatic landscape of St. Vincent’s Rocks at Clifton, overlooking the Avon Gorge near Bristol.
The atmospheric composition features the imposing rocky cliffs to the left, with figures in the foreground, a riverside path, buildings and a vessel on the River Avon in the distance. The warm, subdued palette and dramatic evening sky create a particularly atmospheric character.
The reverse bears handwritten inscriptions relating to St. Vincent’s Rocks, adding an interesting historical detail to the work.
