The oversized hardcover is fine, with clean pages and a sound binding. The dust jacket is good only, with rubbing to its black surfaces, edge wear, and faint soiling on the reverse that is not visible when the jacket is on the book. Jacket still displays beautifully.
Bound in gray cloth with a blind-stamped front panel and silver spine lettering. This substantial volume reproduces Erté’s graphics in color, with his own introduction and selected writings, a preface by Jack Solomon, and an illustrated catalog with technical details. Designed by Marshall Lee and printed in Italy.
Published for Erté’s ninetieth year, the book captures the renewed interest in his work that followed his return to printmaking in the 1970s. Its sweeping figures, elegant lines, and theatrical color make a striking record of the Art Deco artist’s graphic work.
