European Art Glass Necklace Opera Length 56” & Earrings Arora Borealis Crystals Heavy
Stunning, rare antique vintage Bohemian Czech glass Demi-Parure necklace and earrings set.
NECKLACE
Extreme length and premium weight 56 inch flapper style opera length necklace weighing a little over 3.5 ounces. The heavy weight of the glass crystals allows the long rope to hang flush against the body with a dramatic drape. Spring clasp holds securely.
UNSIGNED Beautiful necklace using the "Station" Technique which is the use of complex metal spacers, textured filigree cone caps, small ring-like spacer bands, and ornate components to segment the glass beads. The Arora Borealis (AB) glass crystals shimmer and glimmer in hues of pink, turquoise blue, purple, light blue and red. Small emerald cut faceted glass beads act as spacers between small light blue glass beads. This reflects the pinnacle of mid-century European and American costume jewelry production before operations heavily shifted to using lightweight plastics in the 1970s.
Even though both pieces are NOT signed, the weight, length and construction indicates a designer-level aesthetic.
During the mid-century era (1950s–1960s), manufacturers designed these 50+ inch strands specifically to be versatile. They were intended to be worn long and dramatic, or looped two to three times around the neck to create a stacked, multi-strand look. A 56-inch length featuring this exact style of heavy, ornate glass-and-metal construction strongly aligns with signature designs by Elizabeth Morrey, Miriam Haskell, Vendome, or DeMario, as well as high-end West German imports from that period.
EARRINGS
The gorgeous earrings FOR PIERCED EARS are screw on type and carry the same sparkly components and design of the necklace.
CONDITION
This enchanting jewelry set is in very good condition. No chips or cracks, only teeny tiny nibbles seen through a loupe. One of the metal rings on one earring is slightly bent (please see photos). Will surely make a fine addition to any vintage jewelry collection.
MEASUREMENTS
The necklace is 56” long. The earrings measure 1.5” long X 1/2" wide.
