Extremely Scarce Pilsener Ecuador Printed STARR \"X\" Wall Mount Bottle Opener NIB For Sale

About This Item
Extremely scarce printed PILSENER advertising version of the STARR \"X\" wall mount bottle opener, new in its original black window box with the mounting screws. The bold blue Pilsener name spans the face of the opener, while the original box identifies it as The STARR \"X\" Stationary Bottle Opener. Finding this printed Pilsener version still complete in its original presentation is especially unusual.

History
Pilsener grew out of one of Ecuador\'s oldest brewing stories. A brewery and ice works was established in Guayaquil in 1887, destroyed in the city\'s Great Fire of 1896, and rebuilt on the same site. In 1913, Hope Norton and brewmaster Francisco Bolek created Pilsener in Guayaquil, beginning the life of a beer that became closely identified with Ecuador.

The 1936 advertisement below captures Pilsener decades before this opener was made. A woman raises a glass beside an oversized bottle while the Spanish headline invites readers to toast Pan-American fellowship. By this period the brewery had already adopted crown caps for its bottles, making bottle-opening hardware a natural part of the world surrounding the brand.

Brown MFG Co. was founded in Newport News, Virginia in 1925 by Raymond \"Coca-Cola\" Brown, a Coca-Cola bottler. More than a century later, Brown remains in business and STARR bottle openers are still part of its product line.
