A C19th antique Victorian period hinged square box measuring approximately 8.9 in (226 mm) x 8.9 in (226 mm) and standing 4.75 in (121 mm) high.It is made of stained pine and features intricate deep chip carving to the lid with a different symmetyrical design which is repeated on all four sides.The box has brass fittings with 2 strong hinges to the lid and the brass lock is impressed with VR and crown and W5H PATENT.It comes with a working key which may be original and is in very good condition overall with no real damage with good colour and patina.Some shrinkage of the wood with time but nothing which is a problem and no movement.It would perfect for storing jewellery or sewing accessories or purely as a lovely quality decorative storage box.
