FLORIDA BUYERS ONLY — WE CANNOT SHIP CITRUS OUTSIDE OF FLORIDA
Owari Satsuma is the benchmark cold-hardy mandarin and the variety that built the satsuma industry across the Gulf South. Fruit ripens early, typically November into December here in north Florida, coloring up ahead of most other mandarins and holding well on the tree. The rind is loose and pebbled, peeling away cleanly in one piece with no knife needed, and the segments are seedless with a low-acid, honey-sweet flavor that makes this one of the best fresh-eating citrus varieties for home growers. Because it ripens before hard freezes arrive, you get a reliable crop in years when later-season varieties get caught out.
Cold hardiness is the real selling point. Established Owari trees tolerate temperatures into the upper teens with minimal damage, making this one of the few sweet citrus varieties genuinely suited to zone 8b without structures or heavy protection. Trees stay naturally compact and manageable, work well in the ground or in a large container, and begin bearing young.
