I\'m selling abeautiful late 19th century Austrian hand carved limewood relief depicting a very detailed battle scene.The carving shows numerous soldiers on horseback, with incredible detail throughout.
The reverse has its original backing with a faint handwritten inscription and is stamped Fr. Unterberger, Innsbruck, Tirol. The inscription appears to identify the scene as The Battle of Guinegate, 1513.
The carving is also initialled A.V. to the lower left and is mounted behind glass in its original wooden frame.
The carving itself is in very good antique condition. There is some age-related wear to the frame and some damage to the glass, as shown in the photos. The panel is currently loose from the outer frame and will need securing back into place.
Measures approximately 23cm x 19cm.
