Antique 18th CenturyCeramic Pounce Potor Ink Sander
Up for sale is a fine hand potted and painted antique ceramic pounce pot or ink sander.It is circular in shape like a drum and measures 2-1/2" in diameter by 1-1/2" high.
The concave well is pierced with numerous holes arranged in a symmetrical pattern.The outside of the body has very fine vertical grooves.The base is slightly recessed and unmarked.There is an old collection identifying sticker on the bottom.
NOTE:Many authentic antique ink sanders (pounce pots) do not have a separate fill hole or removable bottom plug. Instead, they were designed to be filled directly by shaking or funneling fine sand and powder in through the sprinkler holes on the top. The concave top, shaped like a shallow bowl or saucer, helps guide the sand back through the holes when the unused powder is poured back inside. The shape lets users tilt the paper, catch the excess sand in the top basin, and let it drain back into the core without opening the vessel.
*****This hand crafted antique pounce pot is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks and only some tiny spots of toughness on the rim.
