COMPLETE RESTORATION of ORIGINAL LIGHT
This is a gorgeous and EXTREMELY RARE flush mount light fixture from the very early 1920\'s, made of heavy castbronze. I have been restoring lights for almost 15 years, and I have never come across this design. When looking at an original fixture like this, you have to think about the fact that it has been around for 100 years! Definitely showing its age, it was a little worse for the wear, but like most things of old, the quality construction meant a restoration was totally worth undertaking for a piece that\'s now ready to last another 100 years.
When purchased, this classic fixture had been severely neglected and had a dull coat of red paint.It was thoroughly cleaned and thenstripped down to bare metal to show the details in the casting. Based on the weight, we expected to find it made of cast iron. Much to our surprise, it revealed a pinkish, gold-toned finish that appeared to be bright bronze. We applied a magnet and sure enough, it did not attach. Then, every speck of paint was painstakingly removed from all the tiny crevices.The casting elements are extremely fine and this fixture must have been made by a superior lighting manufacturer. Lovely just as it was, I thought just a touch of paint would help to draw attention to the delicate casting details.This sort of painting treatment was called \"polychroming\" and consistent with a large portion of lights produced during this early period. I went really subtle with the paint - think about the pale colors added to a sepia-tone photograph back during this same time period of the 1920s-40s. When it was finished, it was then coated with clear polyurethane to seal and protect the finish.New bakelite sockets, wiring and a modern mounting bracket were all added. The purchase of this stunning light fixture will no doubt provide you years of enjoyment in your home. We photograph our lights with a couple of period appropriate light bulb options available in stores and online. These Bulbs ARE NOT Included in the sale.
