Original drafts of a picture book manuscript by Garth Williams. An extraordinary unpublished story, which Williams conceived as being part of a collection of fables. The title “Impossible Fables” is written in pencil at the top of the second page. The story itself is titled The Bee and the Buzzard, and is a truly charming and humorous rhyming fable about a bee who takes on the wrong adversary. Measures 8.5” by 12” and is rendered in blue ink on onion paper, and fastened with a red paper clip. With Garth Williams’ original archive record number in pencil on the reverse.Best known for his illustrations for books like Charlotte’s Web, this is an exceptional document showing Garth Williams’ talents as a writer, as well as an artist.Purchased from the Heritage sales sale of the Garth Williams Estate.
