Available for purchase is a RARE cast irondoorstopmade by Littco Products in Littlestown, Pennsylvania during the 1930\'s. The doorstop is referred to by collectors as Littco\'s \"Mary Quite Contrary\". Inspired by the popular nursery rhyme \"Mary, Mary Quite Contrary\", the doorstop depicts a young girl watering flowers with a watering can. She is wearing a blue dress and white apron. There is also a much more common version with Mary wearing a yellow dress.The doorstop stands about 12 3/8\" tall and the base measures approximately 8 5/8\" wide. There are no manufacturer or number markings on the piece (Littco only marked their doorstops with a diamond-shaped paper label). This doorstop is pictured on page 39 in the book \"Doorstops\" by Jeanne Bertoia. The doorstops.com website lists the current value of this doorstop to be $1,500 and up. The site also notes that a pristine Mary Quite Contrary doorstop sold for $2,950 ata Bertoia sale in 2016.Please note that there are MANY reproductions of this doorstop for sale on and other online sites. There are numerous differences between the fakes and originals, including the shape of the flowers, the neckline of the apron, and whether the gloves have fingers or not. Originals have a U-shape neckline and the repros have a V-shape neckline. Many of the repros also have gloves with fingers, while the originals are shaped more like mittens without fingers. So, BEWARE when buying this doorstop from other vendors. Compare the doorstop with photos in books and other online references. This one was purchased from the estate of an avid doorstop collector. It is guaranteed to be an original 1930\'s Littco doorstopand NOT a modern reproduction. It has some expected paint loss and age discoloration but looks nicer than many other genuine examples I\'ve seen.
