This is a silver gelatin photograph that is unmounted and is approximately 7 x 5 inches (180x130mm).
It shows a large warship brightly illuminated at night on a body of water. Silhouetted tree leaves hang from the top edge of the frame, while a dark shoreline with a low fence or railing runs across the foreground.
The reverse has a typed French caption identifying the vessel as the German cruiser \'Amiral Graf Spee\', illuminated to represent Germany during the Great International Naval Review at Spithead in England, dated \'16 Mai 1937\'. There is a red stamp for a Parisian photo agency reading \'S. A. F. A. R. A.\' and \'URISSE - MONDIAL\' at \'14, Rue de Rome - PARIS\', along with a blue date stamp reading \'20 MAI 1937\'.
