What is Carbon Block Filter Technology?
Not all filters are built the same in terms of contaminant reduction performance. Rigorous product development, quality control and experimentation have shown carbon block products to be far more efficient at removing contaminants of aesthetic and health concern.
Technological Advantages
As evidenced by independent laboratory testing of carbon block filters, the AF-9000PP provides greater chemical adsorption and mechanical filtration. Materials are formed into a carbon block, which is densely compacted. Compression enhances the kinetics of the filter and provides performance that cannot be achieved with extruded or granular activated carbon (GAC) filters. Compacted carbon block filters have a large surface area for chemical/physical adsorption to take place. With a carbon block filter, the water contact time is longer and provides for greater adsorption of many different chemicals, pesticides, herbicides and certain heavy metals.
Unlike granular activated carbon (GAC) filters, all AF-9000 series carbon block filter cartridges will not channel or bypass due to the extreme uniformity of their extruded activated carbon core.

Q:I don\'t have a prefilter installed. Do I need one?
A:For optimum performance of the AF-9000 filter it is recommended that youinstall an under-the-counter sediment prefilter.This is particularly helpful in areas withhigh levels of sediments in the source water and/or lowerwater pressure.
Q:Howdo Iknow ifmyold/existing filter is thenewHG-N type?
A: The two filter models, or types of fit forthe replacement filters on Enagic machines are either\"original\" or \"HG-N\". Each model offilter can onlybe installed onto its respectivefilter base in the machine. First, checkyour old/existingfilter ifit has largeHG-N lettersmarked on the side, just under the Enagic logo. Second, the center nipple on the HG-N filter is not completely round with two notches on the outer rim. Finally,look inside your machine where the filter sits. If the filter tray has two extra bulges in the center hole (outlet) and not completely round, you have theHG-N type filter.The \"original\" type or MW-7000HG filters do NOT have these features.
Also note thatif you purchased your Enagic machinein 2011 or later, most likely you have the newHG-N filter.Please do not force our AF-9000 filter into a HG-N filter tray orturn on the machine if the filter is not properly installed. Remember, this listing is for the \"original\" type, NOT the HG-N type filter.
