Handcrafted Bakota Mbulu Ngulu Statue-Message Choice:
$800.00
Elevate your collection with this striking, hand-carved Kota Reliquary Guardian Figure (Mbulu Ngulu), originating from the Bakota people of Gabon, Central Africa. Renowned for their highly stylized and abstract geometric forms, these figures served a sacred purpose: guarding the ancestral relics and bones of honored lineage ancestors. Each piece features a meticulously carved wooden core entirely overlaid with sheets and strips of embossed brass and copper. The brilliant metal surfaces were traditionally polished to flash in the light, a spiritual practice intended to ward off malicious forces. The signature open diamond shape at the base represents the stylized body and limbs, allowing the figure to be securely bound to its reliquary basket.
