Harley-Davidson\'s snowmobile adventure is one of those great pieces of powersports history that still catches people off guard.
During the enormous recreational-snowmobile boom of the late 1960s and early 1970s, manufacturers from all sorts of industries entered the market. Companies known for motorcycles, lawn equipment, farm equipment and even department-store private labels suddenly found themselves selling machines with skis and tracks.
Harley-Davidson joined that crowded field during the period when the company was owned by AMF — American Machine and Foundry.
The Harley snowmobiles carried unmistakable period styling, including the long wedge-shaped hood and the familiar Harley-Davidson name displayed prominently on the machine. Today they represent a fascinating side road in the company\'s much larger motorcycle history.
